The MAF Foundation (Making Authentic Friendships) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by Juliana Fetherman, inspired by her brother Michael, who has autism and ADHD. Michael’s lifelong struggle with loneliness, due to a lack of friends, motivated Juliana to take action—not only for him but for millions of others with special needs facing similar challenges.
To address this need, Juliana also launched Making Authentic Friendships LLC, the company behind the innovative MAF app. This unique app is designed specifically to help individuals with special needs make friends and build lasting social connections. By matching users based on age, diagnosis, interests, and geographic location, the MAF app empowers its community to develop social skills and enjoy a richer, more connected life.
MAF stands for Making Authentic Friendships, and the name is also a tribute to Michael - his initials serve as a reminder of the personal inspiration behind this mission. Together, the MAF Foundation and Making Authentic Friendships LLC are dedicated to ensuring that no one with special needs ever has to feel alone.
Each year, the MAF Foundation hosts its annual MAF Golf Outing - a signature fundraising event. Proceeds from this event go directly toward the ongoing development of the MAF app, ensuring it continues to grow and enhance the lives of its users. As a registered 501(c)(3), donations to the MAF Foundation are tax-exempt depending on individual circumstances, and every contribution helps expand the organization’s reach and impact.
